It's been a long time since I blog. So long until I need to recall my memory first before I started off with this post. Lol..
The Phantom of The Opera. Should be famillar to my Malaysian friends of my age and younger. Our literature component in Form 2. To be honest, if not because I have read the book before, I wouldn't bother to go watch this opera. Or even the movie that was released few years ago. Well then, now I felt luckily that was not the case. It is indeed an experience of a life time.
I had been watching opera before, The Merchant of Venice. I remember I fell asleep in that show. After that, I don't think I will like opera. But, the phantom's show changes my perspective. I joined my Malaysia Hall friends to Star City (Bit more about this place later) to watch this Phantom of The Opera. We were almost late. Typical Malaysian. When we enter the theatre, it was full..... Can you imagine how Sydneysiders love opera? I was in the cinema in Sydney before, but it is not full, unlike opera. You can find the opposite in Malaysia. Lol.. I guess this is somewhat related to their icon, Sydney Opera House. Haha..
The show's fantastic. I wonder why they never go to Malaysia. The ways the actors portray the characters in the book are themselves worth the price of the ticket. Not to mention the special effects that they put in place. Remember the falling chandelier? It actually falls. Amazing!
Throughout the play, we are regret with our choice. We bought the ticket for AUD $35 but get a side view which partially blocks our views of the left side of the stage. We shouldn't have saved the money. An AUD $60++ ticket will give us a centre seat which provides us magnificent view of the stage. Haiz.. I guess this is a lesson learned in a hard way. Next time, don't save money on something that is itself worth the price.
Finally, one more thing that captures my attention is when the show ends, the audience gave a round of applause that lasted for I think 3-4 minutes. This is what I call appreciation. It is just so different from the show I watch in Malaysia. When the shows end, goodbye everyone, time to go back. The difference in mentality is another thing I learn that night.
Think I will end this post with a wish, now I hope the next opera I watch will be the one played in Sydney Opera House. Cheers
